The Wordless Book is one of the most effective ways to present the Gospel to children.(Although many adults have been led to Christ with it as well!) Wordless Book makes the Truth of the Gospel very simple. As it’s name suggests, it has no words! It contains just four colored pages of red, black, white and yellow and a green cover.

This is how we present the Gospel using the Wordless Book (adjusted for children or adults)

Have you ever seen a book without words or pictures?

This book of colored pages tells a wonderful story from the Bible about the true and living God who made the world. I call this book the Wordless Book. Each color reminds me of part of the story. Would you like to hear it?

Have you ever peeked at the back page of a book to see if the ending is happy or sad?   I have! Let's look at the last page first. It tells us about a very exciting place.

GOLD PAGE

What color is this?  Right!  Gold.  What does it remind you of?  That's right!  Something special.  Mom's wedding ring, treasure.  It reminds me of God.  God is perfect, He does no wrong.  He created you and me!  It also reminds me of heaven, that is where He lives.  The streets are paved with gold!  The most important thing is that He loves you and me!  John 3:16a says:

"For God so loved the world..."

That means everyone, which is you and me!
But there is one thing that can never be in heaven.
  That is sin.

DARK PAGE

This is sin.  Sin is all the bad stuff you and I do that makes God sad.  Telling your mom "NO!" when she asks you to clean your room, hitting your brother, telling lies.  These things are all sin.  You are born with a "want to" to sin.  No one has to tell us how to do bad things.  Mom and Dad punishes us when we are bad.  Romans 3:23 says

"all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"...

That means we are separated from God forever and ever because we do bad things.
God has a wonderful plan so you and I don't have to be punished for our sins.

RED PAGE

He sent His perfect son.  His name is Jesus.  He was born on earth and lived to be a young man.  He never did anything wrong.  When He was a young man, some men took Him, put a crown of thorns on His head and hanged Him on the cross.  Do you know what came out of His hands and feet when they put the nails in?  That's right.  Blood.  The bible tells us in Hebrews 9:22b:

..."and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."

Jesus died on the cross so you and I can be forgiven for the bad things you and I do.  But guess what?  He didn't stay dead!  I Corinthians 15:3-4 says:

..."that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that He was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures"...

Three days later he rose and walked the earth for 40 days, among family and friends!  Then he went to heaven.
And now because of what Jesus did for you, you can have your sins forgiven!

WHITE PAGE

And now because of what Jesus did for you, you can have your sins forgiven!

This is the clean page. This page reminds me of clean things.

You can be made clean from your sin.

Psalm 51:7 says: ..."wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."
Jesus wants to forgive you of all your sins and take them away.

YOU MUST TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST
John 1:12 says.."But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."

Would you like to trust in Jesus for Eternal Life as you Savior now?

  • Bow your head and pray.
  • You can begin by saying "Dear God."
  • Remember to tell Him the three important things:
    • I have sinned; forgive me
    • I believe Jesus died for me
    • I’m now trusting in Jesus for Eternal Life.
  • Say, "In Jesus name, Amen," when finished.

GREEN PAGE

What does the color green remind you of?  Flowers?  Grass?  Things that grow.

When you receive Jesus as your Saviour, you have new life so you can know Jesus better.

2 Peter 3:18 says: "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."

  • Did you receive Jesus as your Saviour?
  • Where is Jesus right now?
  • How long will He be in your heart?

Hebrews 13:5b says: " I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

  • When you sin again, what should you do?

1 John 1:9 says: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

These will help you grow:

  • Go to a good Bible Church and Sunday School
  • Read your Bible and pray
  • Obey Gods Word
  • Tell this good news about Jesus to others

If you have just prayed to God and meant it from your heart then YOU will go to Heaven when you die! You only have to receive the Jesus. Please go and tell your parents, brothers, and sisters that you trusted in Jesus for Eternal Life. And that you will be going to Heaven and tell them what they can do to go to Heaven.

We give 4 things to each visitor:

History of the Wordless Book

The Wordless Book is believed to have first been used by Charles Spurgeon in 1866 at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. He used a piece of black paper, red paper and white paper to share God's plan for salvation. The black page reminded him of his sin, the red represented Christ's blood shed for him, and the white page stood for the cleansing of his sins he received through Christ's sacrifice. In 1875, D.L. Moody used the Wordless Book in Liverpool, England. He added a gold page to represent heaven.

Fanny Crosby, the beloved blind hymn-writer, used the Wordless Book to share with children. She would carry one in her purse and the children would beg her to read the story over and over again. In 1895, Amy Carmichael used the Wordless Book to share the good news in India. She made a satin flag of gold, black, red and white. The flag was attached to an ox-cart which traveled to different villages. There she would tell the gospel story using the colors on the flag. Today Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) prints Wordless Book materials. They added the green page to represent growth in Christ. CEF also added scriptures to go along with each of the colored pages.
